About me

Portrait artist of stars and their moons,

salacious saint and Hollywood historian,

multimodol writer and killer illustrator,

and above all, cat dad to Sasha,

actual royalty.

Hello

I’m Chuck Dransfield

Factoring in my childhood drawings, paintings and crayon doodles I am sometimes astounded by the fact I have been an artist for more than fifty years. I was formally trained with a BFA in Communications Arts and Design at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. However, I still regard my high school art teacher Susan Shaw as the greatest instructor that I ever had. From her I would be educated in practical and brilliant techniques that no other teacher could have possibly instilled into me. I was also fortunate to have been tutored briefly in the late 1990’s in Paris, France by the great surrealist artist and designer Roberto Garcia York within his private studio.

For most of my life I have held a great love for the history of golden era Hollywood cinema and from here I often draw inspiration for my portraits and illustrations. Presently I reside in Los Angeles and live only minutes away from downtown Hollywood. As a small town native from Virginia I often get a rush of excitement whenever I drive past the landmark Hollywood Sign and am reminded that this is my home. I live in continual gratitude and always feel that my life is only just beginning with the best remaining to be.                                                       I would love to create a beautiful custom portrait for you. My preferred method is to illustrate from a clearly detailed photograph that you would provide. I can do a graphite drawing or full color portrait in my method of watercolor and color pencil. Canvas paintings in acrylic are also an option that can be discussed. Pricing would be based upon size, complexity of detail and the number of faces appearing within the portrait.

For a basic graphite portrait on 9 x 12 140lb watercolor paper my pricing would start at $250.00 and full color at $350.00.  A fifty percent deposit will be required upon the start of the private commission with the remaining balance (including shipping charges) to be paid in full upon completion and before shipment. Signed and numbered prints for a large number of the illustrations depicted on my website are available and can be inquired about.  In most cases the original artwork (when available) may be purchased.  Please contact me directly.

Painting is poetry that is seen rather than felt, and poetry is painting that is felt rather than seen.”—Leonardo da Vinci
